The Japanese artist Yasuaki Onishi is presenting his first solo exhibition in Europe at the para_SITE Gallery in Graz.

Onishi is currently here in Graz on a three months residency at the Rondo studio complex by the county of Styria. His installation "Ridge of Boundary" has especially been created for the gallery space and is made out of black glue suspended from the ceiling onto a plastic sheet floating in the gallery space above ground.

The installation is fragile by nature and the thin lines of glue are drawing a dense pattern creating a veil-like structure oscillating between visibility and the unvisible.

The motion of the falling glue is captured and materialized in simple dots, lines hit by rays of light amounting to a minimal yet complex sculpture.

Yasuaki Onishi invites the audiences to consciously explore both inside and outside of the space created by the sculpture, which the artist relates to as negative and positive space.

Onishi says that engaging with his sculptures is a unique experience that stimulates the individual imagination of each visitor and he tries to open our eyes to discover new value from trivial things. "Ridge of boundary" von Yasuaki Onishi

Der Japanische Künstler Yasuaki Onishi präsentiert seine erste Einzelausstellung in Europa in der Galerie para_SITE in Graz.

Onishi befindet sich derzeit auf dreimonatigem Artist in Residence Aufenthalt in den Rondo Ateliers des Landes Steiermark in Graz.

Seine Installation "Ridge of Boundary", eine raumgreifende Skulptur aus von der Decke getroftem schwarzem Klebstoff, schwebt in der Luft und ist eigens für die Galerie entstanden.

Das Naturell der Skulptur ist fragil und die duuml;nnen Linien aus Klebstoff zeichnen ein dichtes Muster, dessen vorhangartige Struktur zwischen Sichtbarkeit und dem Unsichtbaren oszilliert.

Die Bewegung des fallenden Klebstoffes wird festgehalten und nimmt Form an in einfachen Punkten und Linien die vom Sonnenlicht getroffen werden und zu einer minimalistischen zugleich aber komplexen Struktur werden.

Onishi lädt die Besucher_innen ein, den Innen- und Außenraum, der durch die Skulptur geschaffen wird bewusst zu erkunden, auf welchen der Künstler als Positiven und Negativen Raum Bezug nimmt. So wird die Auseinandersetzung mit der Skulptur zu einem einzigartigen Erlebnis, das die Vorstellungskraft der Besucher_innen stimuliert und versucht, unsere Augen zu öffnen, um neue Werte in trivialen Dingen zu entdecken.
